Congratulations to the winners!

Viktória Š. from Slovakia with her work “Moderné Euro” was declared the overall winner of the Eurocompetion. The young artist will be invited to Brussels where her poster will be presented at a press event in the presence of Mr Joaquín Almunia, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs.

The jury, which was composed of representatives of the European Commission and European Schoolnet, teachers and other experts, also selected 15 national winners – one from each participating euro country – and gave a special mention for two finalists. Each of the national winners will receive a digital camera as a prize.

The posters were evaluated on several criteria, such as creativity, originality and clarity of the message linked to the ”10 years of the euro”.

Although this is a fictitious coin, it symbolizes the 10 succesfull years the euro has had. The different children in the background show that even we, children and teens who are different and have different cultures, should unite into using this currency, which is after all the euro-OUR CURRENCY."

Into the ocean (water below the bull) off to Crete. My bull is black, because it is in the shadow of the Euro. My goddess looks into the mirror and sees....the euro, now 10 years old."

British School of Madeira, Funchal "I used a photo I took myself of fireworks, taken right here in Madeira, to show that the Euro`s success is trully something to be celebrated. I then used a coin to describe the Euro celebrating 10 years. I tried to stick to the colours blue and yellow because they are the colours of the European Union."

In the middle we put two candles, one with a 1, and one with a 0. And if you look at in, you can see a 10. (For the 10 years of the Euro). Normally you use the candles for exceptional cases, like birthdays. We used the colours blue and yellow because those are the colours of the Europe."
